Edward Close, son of John Close, lived at 14 Lower Urney Street, Shankill Road, Belfast
Edward Close joined the Royal Irish Rifles.
He was posted as part of the British Expeditionary Force to France in October 1914.
Edward was a Rifleman in 1st Battalion Royal Irish Rifles when he was Killed In Action on the 10th March 1915 at Neuve Chapelle.
A local newspaper states.
Rifleman Edward Close, killed in action, was a son of John Close, 14 Lower Urney Street, Belfast. He had six years service, and left for the front in October. Prior to that he was serving in India. He was given a few days leave in Belfast before embarking for France. He lost his life on the 10th ult, with the 1st Battalion at Neuve Chapelle.
S.A.S.H have been unable to locate records relating to Edward, however we are investigating at this time and hope to be able to bring further information, including the whereabouts of his grave etc at a later date
