John Sweeney, son of John and Mary Sweeney, lived at 14 Lower Urney Street, Shankill,. Belfast


John joined the Royal Irish Rifles.

He was posted as part of the British Expeditionary Force to France on the 6th November 1914.

John was a Rifleman in B Company 1st Battalion Royal Irish Rifles when he was Killed In Action on the 10th March 1915


Johns Soldiers Effects were left to his sister Elizabeth Sweeney.

His signed Will states the following, In the event of my death I leave all my property and effects to Mrs Lizzie Sweeney, No 14 Lower Urney Street, Shankill Road, Belfast.

Dependant Pension Application Forms show both his mother and father as claimants


John received the British War Medal, Victory Medal and 1914 Star.


He is Remembered at Le Touret Memorial, France.
