William Sturgeon, son of Mary Sturgeon, lived at 37 Montreal Street, Belfast


William joined the Royal Irish Rifles.

He was posted as part of the British Expeditionary Force to France on the 6th November 1914.

William was a Rifleman in B Company 1st Battalion Royal Irish Rifles when he was Killed In Action at Neuve Chapelle on the 12th March 1915 aged 25 years


William Soldiers Effects were left to his mother Mary.

His Will, signed and dated 1st November 1914, states the following, In the event of my death I give the whole of my property and effects to Mrs Mary Thompson, 37 Montreal Street, off Crumlin Road, Belfast.

A Pension Application Form shows his mother as claimant.

Dependant Pension Application Forms also show his mother Mary as claimant also


William received the British War Medal, Victory Medal and 1914 Star.


He is Remembered at Le Touret Memorial, France.
