John Heron, brother of Margaret and William James Heron, was connected to 57 Brownlow Street, Shankill Road, Belfast
John joined the Royal Irish Rifles on the 29th of August 1914.
He was posted as part of the British Expeditionary Force to France on the 11th November 1914.
On the 9th of July 1916 John received a G.S.W, Gun Shot Wound, to his left arm.
Having recovered John rejoined his Battalion on the 29th July 1916.
John was a Rifleman in C Company 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Rifles when he was Killed in Action on the 12th of October 1916 aged 40 years.
His Service papers show that he had served a previous period within the R.I.R and that his service had come to an end having fulfilled his duration of engagement.
Johns Soldiers Effects were left to his brother William James Heron of 2 Charlemont Street, Belfast.
His Will, signed and dated 25th November 1914, states the following, In the event of my death I leave the whole of my effects to my brother William James Heron No2 Charlemont Street, Belfast.
A Pension Application Form shows his sister Margaret as claimant.
