Description

This is the story of Samuel John Spratt. On the 26th October 2014 will be the 100th Anniversay of the death of Samuel, younger brother of our grandmother Susannah. Samuel was killed in action on 26th October 1914 at Neuve Chappelle in France. He was a lance corporal in the Royal Irish Rifles, regiment number 8185, 2nd Battalion. Born in 1891 he was 21 when he married Elizabeth Annie Anderson on 21 December 1912 at St. Luke's Lower Falls Church of Ireland and they had a daughter Maggie in 1913. Samuel was awarded the 1914 Star, British War Medal, the Victory medal and clasp. Sadly, Samuel was killed only 7 weeks after the birth of Susannah's second son Robert. She then had daughters Mary (1916), Sarah (1918) and Isobel (1920) and in January 1923 named her next son Samuel John.
